Just to start with the truth: we are swimming 500 yards. Our pace is about 30 seconds per length, or 10 minutes total.
Kevin S: So how far are you swimming?
Maggie: A mile.
Kevin S: Whoa, that's a lot. How long does it take you?
Maggie: About 14 minutes.
Kevin S: Seriously? (Thinking: are you secretly an Olympian???)
Maggie to Eric Tvedt, St. Olaf swimming alumnus: So we're training for the swimming part of a triathlon, and we're wondering what a good pace should be.
Tvedt: Well what's your pace now?
Maggie: I think it takes us about a minute per length.
Tvedt: Wow, okay, well, I'd just say maybe try to work down as much as you can.
Later...
Mirm: I think Maggie meant a minute per LAP...
Tvedt: Okay good, because I was like I could do the dead man's float faster than that.
